ADA is an abbreviation for American Disabilities Act. ADA has a long history in America. The shift towards recognizing people with disabilities began in 1973 with the efforts of many people. ADA later became recognized, officially, in 1977. In 1988, Congress began official implementation of ADA guidelines throughout the US. Any building with public access is required by law to be ADA compliant which is usually accomplished with ADA signage. At Flynn Signs, we are experts in the field of ADA signs. When someone asks for ADA signs, they are usually asking for a sign with tactile graphics and grade 2 Braille. Tactile means perceptible by touch. Tactile graphics are raised words, symbols and images a blind person can touch. Tactile graphics gives a blind person the assurance they are touching an ADA sign with a Braille system. Grade 2 Braille is a system invented in 1821 by Louis Braille. Braille is a method for blind people to read (and write) by touch, usually with very small semi-circles embedded into a sign surface that are substitutes for words or phrases. Braille-assisted signs allow blind people to move about independently without assistance from others. |

The need for a blind person to locate an office space or restroom in a public building is the most common example for ADA office signs and ADA restroom signs. The same occurrence is needed for ADA bathroom signs in special housing facilities and centers for the disabled. The implications are far-reaching. Our company handles ADA restroom signage requirements so you don’t have to. |
