Generally, what we often hear from the owners and managers is, “I am looking for a ground sign or a street sign for my business.” Where does one start? “Ground sign, street sign, pad sign, directional sign.” All of these terms are related and somewhat synonymous with sign monuments to some degree. Sign monument is a general term. There are many different types of monuments: brick monument signs, church monument signs, concrete monument signs, faux stone monument signs, and foam monument signs. Obviously, these types of signs are self-explanatory and descriptive of their material and construction. Almost all sign monuments are electrical signs, meaning, they light up at night. Most sign monuments are double-sided, meaning, you can view them from both sides.

Ironically enough, in the sign industry, a pylon sign is not referred to as a ground sign, even though it is set in the ground. Pylon signs are the largest common sign structure made by sign companies. These signs are identified primarily by their aluminum fabricated pole cover (or column), usually in the form of a square or rectangle which starts near the ground and ends at the base of the actual sign cabinet of the pylon sign. Pylon signs are highly visible and can usually been seen from as far as 150 yards. That is a distance of one and a half football fields. Pylon signs are also seen on freeways, and usually act as markers for shopping centers, indoor and outdoor malls, car dealerships, sports centers, theme parks, and small plazas. Pylon signs are larger than life.

Historical monuments, monolith signs, and monolith sign monuments are not very common and most sign companies do not make these types of signs. Flynn signs can make these types of signs. However, for the most part, the most common ground sign is an electrical sign monument.
